yup, it is. i use Excelsior JET (http://www.excelsior-usa.com/) and it works great. in order to use it you must have the runtime libs installed which comes with JET. there is a utility included which packs those runtime files with your app, but then it''ll be rather big (like it adds about 8 Mb). so if you have a java app which is 70 kb, the new package will be 8 Mb. another thing, the system that you want to run your app on must have JRE (java run time thingy) installed and it has to be the same version that you used to compile it on. there''s an option to include JRE in the package as well, but then the package is gonna be much bigger. how big you may ask. i dunno, perhaps another 20 Mb.

if i''m wrong, feel free to enlighten me

gcj from GCC 3.0 allows for java to native and bytecode to native compiling. So if you go for the cygwin version (the version for win32), you could possibly build win32 executable from java source code or bytecode.

http://sources.redhat.com/cygwin/

I don''t really know if the version 3 of gcc is available under cygwin but if not the case, it should be in a few months.

and GCC is free and open source.

I don''t think that GCJ supports the AWT yet for native compilation, and therefore you aren''t really able to use the AWT nor JFC Swing for GUI programs. But I believe that have most of the other classes implemented and working.

Last time I checked, GCJ only supported Java 1.1. Is that still the case?
