Please check "Little Diggel" indie project that tries to find players inside digger and miner community.
This is platformer game with RPG and Tactical quest elements.
Some gameplay has SteamWorld Dig idea but it has own unique storyline, conception, art and gameplay.
Now there is an arcade build has no features which the developer has planned to release in extended version after successful Kickstarter funding because HD art and animation require more than thousand dollars.
The next build would be more fit for multigenres fans.
Also the project tries it on Steam Greenlight where there is more than 70% upvoted voices during a week.
