Hey guys, ive finally decided to give c++ yet another try, since many jobs available around here only want c++ developers, not delphi ones. So im sitting here, FINALLY getting a window to show up using the win32 api, and realise that the excutable file is huge (~150kb). So im wondering, how should i go about making the cursed exe files smaller? You could say by removing libraries, but i need help with this one. Cheers - Wav

Your compiling your files in debug mode. You need to compile in retail mode.

I cant remeber how to do this off-hand, but there is an option on one of the pull down menus of MVC++ 6 for "set active configuration", select this and change the compile mode from debug to retail.

Note: you will not be allowed to debug your files any more.

Just an FYI, you can debug release code if you change a few options. (I'm not sure if this changes the executable size however). I believe that they are under the Linker settings. The options are "Generate Debug info" and "Use program database". There might be a little more to it, but I don't remember right now.

This can be helpful if you are experiencing bugs in release mode that don't occur in debug mode because of the way debug mode handles some things (trust me, this happens a lot more than it may seem).

note: the program database should be in the same directory as the dll if you want to be able to view the code while debugging.

Edit: Forgot to say, this is for VC++. I don't know about the other development environments.
