I had previously read in several places, actually over a year ago, that Sony would provide people with Playstation Game Developers'' Kits, or something to that effect. I''m not talking about anything like RPG Maker, either. I am interested in finding some information on developing games for consoles like PSX or PS2 specifically, but other information on other systems would be welcome. Not to say I''d be that impulsive and snag one before I knew what was coming, but for some reason I can''t seem to find much information on them aside from the fact that they exist(ed). If anybody knows of some websites i should check out or anything else, I''d be grateful. Thanks.

Supposedly a PS2 Linux kit is under development for UK and US release. It''s already been released in Japan and it sold out.

There''s a detailed step-by-step article on this site on how to make games for the DreamCast, including instructions on building a cable to plug the DreamCast into your PC (it runs WinCE btw).

The trade-off between price and quality does not exist in Japan. Rather, the idea that high quality brings on cost reduction is widely accepted.-- Tajima & Matsubara

Well, hopefully finals week hasn''t fried my brain too much. But I remember hearing that in order to get a console Dev Kit you have to be 1. A Development House ie..Have a business license, employees, etc... 2. And a lot of money. I think I heard around 50k for a single dev kit. I am probably way off on that number but just trying to remember the information I found out when I was on the hunt for dev kits as well. I think your best bet would be to find information out on the internet. I think I remember seeing information on Playstation development on Linux. Sorry I am so vague. Maybe this''ll help.

At one time sony sold the yaroze. It was basically a psx dev kit, only with a not-as-good set of libraries, and you didn''t have a licence to sell games you made either.

You could freely get publishing deals off the back of your Yaroze demos, some people have.

I''m now employed in the industry as a result of the Yaroze and there are loads of people similar. Check out E-Bay or something to see if anyone is selling it.

Alternatively, Sony still sells the kits to universities/colleges, so if you go to one - ask them to apply.

For PS2, the linux kit is being released worldwide, you could always get that :-)
