I''m having troubles with Bumpmapping in D3D. I get the "error" message when I''m running the bumpmap sample in the DX8 SDK, although bumpmapping works in OpenGL. Also, I''ve noticed that it doesn''t run too smooth. (Like water and such). I have a GeForce 2 GTS 64MB so I can''t see what the problem should be in that area. Also running latest nVIDIA drivers (21.83 as of today) and DX 8.1 Any suggestions? Thank you,

Thats something that I have trouble with as well (ATi rage fury pro). The wierd thing is that it works in OpenGL (AFAIK), but it doesn''t work in DX.

really annoying,
that''s actually the only thing holding me back from converting to DirectX.

Thats odd, i''m still using the video card that came with my computer and it runs fine. Check the website for it for any driver updates or something.

Which BumpMapping sample are you trying to run ?

The GeForce 2 supports DotProduct3 and Emboss bump mapping. It DOES NOT support EMBM (Env Map Bump Mapping). It''s a hardware thing not an API thing.

To see EMBM demos in hardware you''ll need hardware which supports it such as a GeForce3, Matrox G400, ATI Radeon etc.

The bump mapping you''ll be seeing in OpenGL on a GF2 will be emboss or dot product 3.

The BumpEarth, BumpLens, BumpUnderWater and BumpWaves samples use EMBM so can only be viewed with Reference Rasteriser on a GF2 (any OpenGL demos of the same thing would also need to use software rendering).

Hmm, really? I wasn''t aware of that. I would like to learn how to do just regular bump mapping (if there is such a thing) like what they did in Serious Sam for the blood (or at least I think thats what they did it on).
