Well how is everyone? I am really enjoying myself working with windows programming. I am dedicating some time to working with controls. I was just going to start, but than I thought it would be smart to get your opinion.

My plan so far is to work on the following:

Windows API (C++)

WxWidget libray (C++ and other languages)

Qt library (C++)

C#

Visual Basic

Is this reasonable/possible? Is there anything else you would suggest? Also, Is there anything I am not taking into consideration that I need to know?

Oh, and also I noticed the use of CButton, etc. that looks like something I should learn. I noticed it's use in an open source program. What is this and how is it used?

Have a nice day,

Do you have a goal?

I'd recommend sticking with one language, ideally one your already familiar with, unless you have a compelling reason to switch.

As for the windowing libraries you mention, none of them seem particularly "game" oriented, if that is a concern for you?

CButton is most likely a class from MFC (Microsoft Foundation Classes). It’s a C++ wrapper for Win32 and is considered pretty obsolete these days (it uses some strange macro magic to wire up events, etc).

As @rip-off said, your choice of language will depend on your goals/requirements.

C# and Visual Basic aren’t UI libraries, but languages. Both use .Net and potentially Mono, the open source .Net (not sure about VB?). Again, depending on your requirements (do you need cross platform support?) you could use Winforms or WPF on Windows. Both have their pros and con.

if you think programming is like sex, you probably haven't done much of either.-------------- - capn_midnight

Try a Embarcadero C++ Builder with their VCL/FireMonkey libraries. They really best on visual development since 1995 until now.

#define if(a) if((a) && rand()%100)

Well I see some open source game code that I want to try to change and it includes scroll bar manipulation. It is also something good to know even if it is quickly.
