Please someone get this message to ID or Epic. Start development on a Random Level generator. Me and LAN gaming buds have still to this day have not been able to recreate the fun we used to have playing the crusty Rise of the Triad. Single player the game sucked but Multiplay Capture the flag with a random level generator was the best. No more one player dominating because he knows the levels inside and out. Now all players are on a leveled playing field. Sure random levels will never have the detail and design of regular levels but for lan play they are a joy to play. Anyone who says it can''t be done go dig up a 486 from a landfill and load rise of the triad and generate some random levels and give it a try. You will be glad you did. My only hope is Id or Epic will decide to include this missing feature soon.
maybe you should look up the random level generators made for quake, quake2, quake3 (pretty sure), half-life, etc. try using them, basically any game that allows mod authers to create entities that are solid, random levels can be generated on the fly. of course many oif the utilities where designed to create the random level in which then you have to compile (since they are in .map format), but still better then nothing. just generate 10-20 maps and your set for a session (if you want more just make more).

I have messed with a few and have been disapointed. It should be integrated into the game.
Write your own if you don''t like what''s available!
I think Rise of the Triad had a tile-based map, so random generation was trivial.

I have played this Triad game you speak of... the Random level thing worked great for leveling the playing field like that one guy said. We used it exclusively and ANYONE who played, got a fair and even game against the hardcore professionals! It was wit and skill over repetative training. I''m gonna go search for those level makers right now!!! Maybe we can hunt someone down that programs and commission his to make us one, eh?? I know ROTT was a flat based environment, but I''d play random [fair] levels that are flat in UT or Quake over the really awesome ones someone makes, but everyone know where everything is. Makes sense to me.

Anybody here program deeply enough to work on something like this???

nexxus6, creating complex random levels is very difficult. i personally ondt thing that it should be inlcuded in the game engine since it would not only take time away form development, it owuld mean the bsp compiling (ok i know ut does not require level comiling and does some it a runtime, but still). some of the random generators are open source soy ou can contribute if you think you can do a better job. the main porblem is that todays games are not designed with random levels in mind due to the fact that its "true" 3d compared to the raycast stuff of the rott and doom days. i hate to say but you can always just download twenty or so levels form the net that no one in your lan party has played and then it would be the best of both worlds (no one knows the level and they are somewhat decent). i have doen this with great success in cs, hl, qw, q2, q3, ut.
