I am fairly new on the programming side and openGL. (14 just) I was just curious to what people meant by using their own engines. WHAT ARE THEY? WHAT DO THEY DO? If you could help me out here i would be extreamly grateful! Thankz alot. Hairycoconuts ----------------------- This space is for sale -----------------------

An engine is simply the program that displays and runs the graphics display (and/or the sounds, physics etc...), as opposed to the data that you give to the engine. Engine + data = a game or demo.
So basically, the engine is the part of the program that handles rendering etc...
Making your own engine means not using a pre-built rendering engine, like Id software sells their Quake3 engine, then you just have to modify some things but the engine is here.

A friend and I are working on an Engine Design and Implementation series. The first article should appear in a month or so (on Gamedev).
