Any ideas what terrain engine algorithm is used in GTA3 (ROAM, Progressive Mesh, etc)? What do you guys think?

If you''re speaking of Grand Theft Auto 3 (and I think you are)...

There is no terrain engine as far as I know of. The terrain is all modeled just like you would the cars, people, buildings, etc... fixed geometry. The real secret is in the streaming and organization of the geometry which is why there are minimal, minimal, minimal load times (mere seconds when changing cities).

Yes, I was refering to Grand Theft Auto 3. Wow, so the entire city in one giant model, interesting.

Well... it''s not a single model. It''s lots of individual models. While I probably shouldn''t go into too deep of details, I can say that it''s nothing bleeding edge technology wise. And that''s the beauty of the game... it''s brilliance is all gameplay, something most games don''t have alot of!
