Well, if you are sure that you are connected properly, and you are using Windows. Go to you internet options in internet explorer. Go to connection. Remove any lising for a modem and click on the set-up tab. It will ask a bunch of questions, the answer to all of them is either LAN or manual, and no, you don''t want to set up a mail account now. After that IE will look at the LAN for an internet connection. If nothing happens then your computer may not have permission to access the internet on that network. Also you will probably need to set up the gateway. Get the gateway address, open your TCP/IP settings, find the place it says Gateway Address and put it in. Make sure you have DNS info in there as well.

START >> SETTINGS >> CONTROL PANEL >> INTERNET OPTIONS

When you are in the Internet Settings window, go to the Connections Tab. In the Tab, you can disable your DEFAULT CONNECTION.

Default Connection = The connection that will be used whenever trying to access a network. If you disable THIS, you can make your network connection DEFAULT.

or instead of disabling the connection, you simply change it from "Always dial my default connection" to never dial a connection. Then it will connect through the lan if it can.
