Why is Christmas often abbreviated Xmas, where did this X come from? Also, does OK stand for anything? "You can observe a lot just by watching."- Yogi Berra

I think OK stands for "Okay".

X = Christ (I think it''s a Greek thing to do with the cross).

Christian conspiracy theorists say that it is the world''s attempt to avoid having to deal with Christ. Rather unfortunate, then, that a lot of Christians also use "Xmas."

I dislike pointless abbreviations - especially those that can''t conveniently be spoken (it''s harder to say "Xmas" than "Christmas").

It is harder to say, but easier to type and write.

Guy : interesting... I remember hearing from a teacher that OK was used in war to express "zero kills" or something like that.

I''ve also heard that OK was a purposely misspelled abbreviation of "All Correct" created by some people in Boston who played a game called "Murdering The King''s English".
