You know how you get that dns error page that looks extreamly ugly when you type in a wrong url? That page is under c:\windows\system\[something] (I can''t find where the paper that I wrote it down on) Anyways I tryed to delete it and replace it with my own file but it says access denied. Then I tried to set attribs in ms-dos and that was disallowed... Does anyone know how to get around this so I can change this ugly screen?
To make it is hell. To fail is divine.

Under "Browsing", un-check "Show Freindly HTTP Error Messges"
Now you can look at the web server's ugly error page...

...and for the record, I believe it''s stored in a DLL file. That''s probably why you couldn''t change the access permissions on it... it was probably in use by Windows. Not that you''d want to delete an IE-related DLL anyway.

If you want to change it you'll need a resource editor that can edit compiled resources (ie, resources in .dll files and such). I use Resource Hacker myself.

Anyway, in Win2k the error pages are stored in "WINNT\system32\shdoclc.dll" (which is why you can't delete it, and if Windows had let you delete it, IE wouldn't function ). It's probably the same for Win9X.

(Incase anyone's wondering, I got the resource hacker to do this [note the ads and the buddylist icon]. Yes, I am a nerd. )
