Quake 2 Source

I honestly think Mr Carmack has finally lost it. I can understand him releasing the Q1 engine as GLP (i.e. no one actually makes games with it anymore), but Quake 2!?! What''s next? Unreal Tournement? LithTech? Hell, by this rate Q3 should be open source next year.
Ah well, at the end of the day i dont care if it all goes open source - it gives me more code to stea*$*AHEM&$* i mean use under the GLP license.
Actually its great that hes done this, it shows what a cool guy he is. Giving people access to engines ain't gonna harm anyone and will benefit the whole community.

The Q2 source is a bit more organized than the Q1 source.
Time for some good old line-by-line debugging! God bless Carmack for his freaky coding style!

It actually doesn''t surprise me, considering how old it is. Think about it - its nearing 2 generations older than current technology (quake 3 and Doom 3).

The source for Quake 2 has been out for months. I've had it at The Rabbithole since June 27 this year (according to the file date).
-edit- just checked the zip file in the zip file and the date of the original source release was 3-28-1998. Looks like there have been some significant changes to the source included in the new file
-/edit-
I also have Quake 3 but from what I was told it's everything but the netcode. Not sure if there's anything else missing.
It's all in the Tricks section if you want to check it out. As with all other things it's both zipped and unzipped so you can browse and download as you like.

The Quake 2 source is new..The ''old'' Quake2 source was just the game logic code, so people could make mods...
This code is the entire engine from start to finish. Of course, since it was released under the GPL you can''t use the code in your own game unless your game is fully GPL too (which means you have to release the source code).
