๐Ÿ‘‹ Introduction
Hello everyone,
My name is Christophe.
Iโ€™m not a programmer and I donโ€™t have any skills in coding or asset creation, but Iโ€™m passionate about game design, wildlife ecosystems, and survival games.
I joined this forum because Iโ€™ve been working on a concept for a systemic animal survival game inspired by the structure of The Isle โ€“ Evrima, but set in a contemporary African ecosystem with modern species and unique mechanics.
Iโ€™m not looking to code the game myself โ€” my goal is to exchange with developers, get technical feedback, and understand what would or wouldnโ€™t be feasible in an engine like Unreal Engine.
Iโ€™m here to learn, discuss, refine my concept, and listen to the advice of more experienced people.
Thank you in advance to anyone who takes the time to read, critique, or offer guidance.
Looking forward to talking with you all!
Christophe

๐ŸŒ Concept: โ€œEvrima: Savanna Editionโ€ โ€“ Systemic Animal Survival Game
Iโ€™d like to share a concept Iโ€™ve been developing: a systemic animal survival game inspired by The Isle โ€“ Evrima, but set in the modern African savanna.
The goal is to create a living, believable ecosystem where each player embodies a wild animal with natural behaviors, strengths, weaknesses, and social interactions.

๐ŸŽฎ General Concept
A multiplayer openโ€‘world game where players take the role of African animals.
Core pillars:
โ€ข Full life cycle (newborn โ†’ juvenile โ†’ adult โ†’ elder)
โ€ข Realistic social structures (prides, clans, packs, herds, troops)
โ€ข A systemic ecosystem that evolves even without players
โ€ข Dynamic seasons affecting migrations, resources, and conflicts
โ€ข A massive open world with savanna plains, woodlands, rivers, marshes, cliffs, and waterholes

๐Ÿพ Playable Species (Expanded Version 1.0)
๐Ÿฆ Lion
โ€ข Dynamic pride system
โ€ข Coordinated hunting
โ€ข Territorial defense
โ€ข Rivalry with hyenas and wild dogs
๐Ÿบ Spotted Hyena
โ€ข Hierarchical clan
โ€ข Endurance and harassment tactics
โ€ข Opportunistic scavenging and group hunting
๐Ÿ• African Wild Dog (Lycaon)
โ€ข Highly coordinated pack
โ€ข Enduranceโ€‘based hunting
โ€ข Fast, nervous, tactical gameplay
๐Ÿƒ Wildebeest
โ€ข Mandatory seasonal migration
โ€ข Collective panic behavior
โ€ข Wide vision, weak attack
๐ŸฆŒ Gazelles (Thomson / Grant)
โ€ข Evasionโ€‘focused gameplay
โ€ข Explosive sprint
โ€ข Extreme vigilance
โ€ข Primary prey for fast predators
๐Ÿ˜ Elephant
โ€ข Family herd structure
โ€ข Memoryโ€‘based navigation
โ€ข Ability to modify the environment
๐Ÿฆ Rhinoceros
โ€ข Solitary or small groups
โ€ข Powerful charge
โ€ข Strong territorial behavior
โ€ข Poor vision but excellent smell
๐Ÿฆ’ Giraffe
โ€ข Panoramic vision
โ€ข Deadly kick
โ€ข Herd movement
โ€ข โ€œSentinelโ€ role in the ecosystem
๐ŸŠ Nile Crocodile
โ€ข Semiโ€‘aquatic gameplay
โ€ข Waterhole ambushes
โ€ข Burst attacks and drowning mechanics
๐Ÿ Snakes (Python / Cobra)
โ€ข Stealthโ€‘based gameplay
โ€ข Silent ambushes
โ€ข Limited vision but thermal detection
โ€ข Perfect for patient, tactical players
๐Ÿ’ Baboons
โ€ข Complex social troop
โ€ข Climbing and vertical escape
โ€ข Aggressive group defense
โ€ข Unique interactions with predators
๐Ÿฆ› Hippopotamus
โ€ข Extremely territorial in water
โ€ข Surprisingly dangerous
โ€ข Nightโ€‘time grazing
โ€ข Frequent conflicts with crocodiles

๐ŸŒฆ๏ธ Dynamic Seasons
Wet Season
โ€ข Prey are dispersed
โ€ข Rivers are full
โ€ข Predators must travel farther
Dry Season
โ€ข Waterholes become war zones
โ€ข Massive migrations
โ€ข Crocodiles dominate
โ€ข Increased conflict everywhere

๐Ÿง  Systemic AI
Even without players:
โ€ข wildebeest migrate
โ€ข gazelles regroup
โ€ข lions patrol territories
โ€ข hyenas track carcasses
โ€ข wild dogs hunt in packs
โ€ข elephants follow memory routes
โ€ข giraffes act as lookouts
โ€ข hippos defend rivers
โ€ข snakes hunt silently
โ€ข baboons retreat to cliffs and trees
The goal is a living, unpredictable ecosystem.

๐Ÿ› ๏ธ Technology Considerations
I believe Unreal Engine 5 would be the most suitable engine due to:
โ€ข natural environment rendering (Lumen, Nanite)
โ€ข complex animal animation support
โ€ข openโ€‘world tools (World Partition)
โ€ข advanced AI systems (Behavior Trees, EQS)
โ€ข builtโ€‘in multiplayer capabilities
But Iโ€™m open to feedback from more experienced developers.

โ“ What Iโ€™m Looking For
โ€ข Feedback on technical feasibility
โ€ข Advice on structuring a prototype
โ€ข Suggestions for AI and behavior systems
โ€ข Opinions on the best engine choice
โ€ข Anyone interested in discussing or exploring the idea

๐Ÿ”ฅ Conclusion
My goal is to create a realistic, immersive, systemic animal survival experience where each species offers unique gameplay and the ecosystem evolves naturally.
Iโ€™d be very happy to hear your thoughts, critiques, ideas, or technical advice.
Thanks for your time!
