This source code is nearly two years old, but it never occured to me to post it here until now. In spring of 2000, I started working on an RTS engine that would use the game media from Total Annihilation. The idea was that a project would be much easier to complete if I didn't need to worry about models, textures, etc. When things started moving along, I started to lose interest and time, so I posted it on TA forums. I sent source code to 100+ people and placed it on SourceForge, but to the best of my knowledge, no one ever expanded on the codebase. So, I'm mentioning it here in hopes that someone will do something interesting with it. You will need the TA files to get anywhere, although you could conceivably download user maps and units from TA websites. Also, the code is probably not organized in the best way. It was very much a "learn as you go" sort of thing. Read it for the functionality, not the design. It is also very unoptimized. For example, the terrain rendering code really doesn't do any culling. The performance should be good on high end machines, but it may be extremely slow on low end machines. Also, if you *do* create something interesting, respond here and let me know! As old as TA is, I think there are still technology bits here that make the code worthwhile. The code is located at: http://sourceforge.net/projects/openglta/ I was "No_One_You_Know", but that hotmail address is now dead. If you need anything, respond here. If you are serious about expanding the project, I'd recommend taking control for yourself. I can probably help you becom an admin of the sourceforge project or you can start a new one. Finally, the source code is in OpenGL. If you don't use OpenGL it should be pretty easy to port to DX. If you have specific questions or issues, respond here. This might be better off in an OpenGL forum, but I don't hang out there. If someone wants to cross post this, I won't necessarily catch posts in the other forum. Use this for good and not for evil. One last thing - This is in no way related to the original TA source. All of the work here is either my own or heavily based on (in most cases) the work of others in the TA community. This isn't some cracked source code.
