I am running Windows 2000 w/SP2. The computer boots up fine and everything until a User tries to logon. It allows the user to login, but it does not load any of the user settings, desktop, or the Start menu. This is the same for every user that is not a member of the Administrators group. I think I have tracked the problem down to Explorer failing to load. I have tried mannualy starting explorer (through taskmanager), but it does not load. I was thinking that bad permsions may have caused the problem, but I set everything in the Windows Directory to Full Access and everything in the User Folders to full access, but that did not fix it. Any ideas about what might be causing this? - Kinney Edited by - Kinneysr84 on December 31, 2001 12:23:52 PM

No, but I have my own Win2k problem.
My system fails to load something (could be anything) on boot about 30% of the time. tcpip.sys is a big one. But many others faild to load as well. Whats the deal? I''m thinking of formatting and reinstalling. It''s really pissing me off that I have to restart every third time I start my system.

hey, I have win2k prob too! easy one, tho.

win loads up demanding the administrator(u know: name:administrator password: ) password.

But I don''t want that, I''m the only user, and there ain''t no password defined, so when I press ok, it enters anyway.

How can I get rid of this?

You might want to check the Event Viewer to see if it gives you any more information about the errors. Sometimes it can be quite useful.

I say you all boot red hat or some other linux and ditch win2k (ok maybe not ditch it, but at least dual boot it as a SECONDARY OS).
