I''m still hazzy on how bitmpas are read in correcty...is there a file to accompany the bitmaps that each engine references to find the format of the bitmaps Like for example you have all the bitmaps done for you animation of a character walking... How does the engine know which is frame 1,7 or 4...

Generally speaking most 2d engines create a class or structure for bitmaps, that contain the surfaces for each frame of animation, along with variables that contain the number of frames in the bitmap object, and the current frame it is on. It may also have an array that contains the animation sequence.

So you define what size each of you bitmaps can be and how many frames can be in an animation bitmap....then always stick to these paramaters??
