Ok, im reading Tricks of The Windows Game Programming Gurus and it uses DirectX6, but i have the DirectX7 SDK. So, for the sound there a flag called DSBCAPS_CTRLDEFAULT and sound programs wont compile cuz its an undeclared identifier. I heard somewhere this isnt in DirectX7, and im supposed to add something to the sound.h header file to fix this. What do i do?

the flag is equal to:

DSBCAPS_CTRLPAN | DSBCAPS_CTRLVOLUME | DSBCAPS_CTRLFREQUENCY

#define DSBCAPS_CTRLDEFAULT
should do the job

I suggest not to change DX header. define it in the
header where you include the "dsound.h" file

Sorry. I told to write the line with the 3 flags
after the #define DSBCAPS_CTRLDEFAULT,
but it disappeared!?! (at least is not displayed with my browser)
(wrote in between a "greater as"
and "less as" character, maybe has something to to with it?)

Yup, that turns it into an HTML tag

I had the same problem with DX8. Most of the DSBCAPS were undefined... I was pullin'' my hair outta my head trying to figure it out and then suddenly it started working... why? Dunno. Still haven''t figured it out. I know this isn''t helping but I''d like to know for myself why that happens. DSBCAPS_CTRLDEFAULT is in DX6, 7 and 8. It shouldn''t matter what version you are using. Go to msdn.microsoft.com and see for youself. It''s just an odd problem =(

I think that's what he meant. That would equate to

#define DSBCAPS_CTRLDEFAULT (DSBCAPS_CTRLPAN | DSBCAPS_CTRLVOLUME | DSBCAPS_CTRLFREQUENCY)

Later,
ZE.

EDIT: typo, stupid forum code (converted my lt's/gt's to angle brackets twice...hello! That's what I wanted them to look like...sheesh)
