Hey, We are looking for advanced c++ programmers for the new game ''SiC''. This is not a HL mod, or any kind of mod, for that matter. We are working to combine several gaming engines: Quake II, Crystal Space, 3Dgamestudio Into one diverse, and powerful gaming engine. We have 2 C++ programmers at the moment, but neither have experience with gaming engines. We need a lead C++ programmer who has had experience in the area, but if you are just plain out a kick ass programmer, we need you regardless of experience. Pay is a possibility, after completion of the game, and based on return. Alright, here are the details on the game: SiC is a game based in space. With many planets (terrain and polygon integrated maps, much like Tribes2)... Primarily, SiC is a MMORPG, but with other play types incorperated in the mix. Unlike most RPG game, SiC is first person, and real time combat. Making it also a FPS. Additionally, players can modify areas they control, fortify them, and wait for the enemies to arrive... or set up auto defense mechanisms... in this game, your land is your power.. and losing it, could devistate your social status and position. This factor also mixes strategy into the game. Inspired by the flexibility of GTA 3, we will try to leave the game as limitless as we can, integrating things as "optional" .. to give the worlds the ability to grow, but not forcing them to. Every 200 people that enter the game, a planet forms.. with about 50 plots of land. This game is truely a power struggle, but with so many complexities that absolute power can be obtained, but not held for long at all. Additional infomation for the game will be up at its (broke ass) home site, http://www.XibitSoft.com/ (be patient, we are working on it). Thanks for your time, please email me if you are interested. vmadman@hotmail.com I may forget that I even made this post Also, feel free to ask any questions (via email), I will get back to them as soon as I can. Again, Thanks for Your time, -Luke Chavers Xibit Software Group

Wow, I was looking over the big help wanted forum, and realized my game is just another word in a very big book.

Alright, let me explain how we are different than everyone else here looking for developers.

1) We have more resources. We have dedicated boxes in WorldCom: Dallas, TX and in UUNet: Boston, MN.

We are installing a dedicated T3 into Brewton, AL.

We work under a company that actually profits, today. We did not slap our names on a web page and says "this is us". Xibit Software is about 6 months old, but has already produced a lot of software... and has a positive cash inflow of a few grand per month. (I am working on making that number larger, but gah, just getting started).

2) We have a larger staff than most... but not all of the people around here. Or at least, I think. As of right now we have:
[ 2 ] C++ Programmers
[ 2 ] Artists
[ 3 ] Modelers
[ 3 ] Map Makers
[ 1 ] Sound Co-Ordinator
[ 2 ] Storyline writers
[ 1 ] Vocalist
and several other guys who just co-ordinate the people and projects.

I didnt write this just to brag, I am just explaining the difference between us, and the other guys.. maybe this will attact more people or maybe it wont.

Alright, when I say combining the three engines, I do not mean it exactly as you interpretted it.

The engine we are using is called Crystal Space.

However, we will study the other engines and make modifications to our engine as needed... and where possible and needed, use the libraries from the other 2 engines.

So when I say "combine the engines", I do not mean the core engine files, I am refering to the libraries that accompany them.

I hope this better states our position on the matter.

Mwa... Not really I think. MMORPG''s tend to end up not so finished... Also, there is a thing that is puzzling me...

You intend to "combine" these three engines into one... Quite a big effort, but I guess that is possible when you are a good programmer. But, you also say that all you got is 2 inexperienced C++ programmers?!?! Okay, then please tell me, who came with the idea in the first place? Those 2 inexperienced C++ programmers?

I am a very experienced programmer myself, but I have obligated myself to other aspects of the project.

I have looked over the code of the three engines and it is very possible, they are structured and laid out the same way.

I dont have to explain to people not planning on contributing to the game how we are doing things.. in fact, if you are not looking for a position in a game developement team, please dont even reply.

If you are looking for a team, and you think we might be that team, I will answer any questions. Though I dont want to seem rude, I dont have the time with everything going on to sit and explain things to the spectators.

Thanks,
