Checked Listboxes in VB

I''m making a program that uses checked listboxes and I want it read a file, and depending on what it reads, check certain items on the list. My problem is I can''t figure how to make it check the items, according to everything I''ve looked at (including the MSDN Library), it checks the box when you click on the checkbox....gee, really helpful.
