Hi, I trying to make a MSN clone shit for internal network use. can someone point me to some good tutorials about server side programming? I have to write the program in VB so if someone can point me to some good articles about this one I would be glad. I looking for some good articles for two days. thanks, Sand Hawk Member of the Stupid Coders. http://www.stupidcoders.cjb.net -Earth is 98% full. Please delete anybody you can.

The deal is that, there''s not going to be any tutorials telling you how to make a chat server. You have to figure it out on your own. The best reference that you can find is some networking and socket tutorials. I haven''t see nany VB ones, mostly because I never searched for VB. And I''m *NOT( going to say "programming a server in VB is not sane" cause that would start a flame war; however it is true

First thing: I like your "Go jump of a cliff" picture more than the current! Programming a server in VB is quite sane because it''s quite easy. I already found some stuff about it and got some help. I wrote quite some code already. Most of my programming is in C++(Gamedevelopment) but I know way too less for doing it in C++. So I''m doing it in VB. My simple chatserver can already negotiate with clients and set up a connection. Message handling is next on the schedule! :p

Internet Relay Chat Protocol Specifications

I''m not sure if this is what your looking for, but I just happen to have this link for IRC protocol. I thinks its a bit dated, but I''m sure if you look around on the net you''ll be able to find a newer version of the Protocol Specifications.

btw I haven''t had a chance to read specifications at all, so I don''t know anything about IRC programming.

So Good Luck!!
