Mac Game Development?
Hi, If I where to design a game for the Mac OS, where could i get a game engine to use and the other things necesary for development.
Thanks
I feel obligated to point out to you that this is a UNIX forum; other than OS X, there is nothing pertinent in your question to our forum. That said, I will suggest you look into SDL and CrystalSpace, both of which maintain Mac ports unless I am severely mistaken.
I also suggest you seach using my favorite search engine. Using the terms "Mac game development|engine" yielded the following links on the first page, among others:
iDevGames.com
MacGameFiles
MacTech game development tips
Good luck!

chill out there chief, the mac os x was built on freebsd, so this kinda does make it a *nix quesiton.
Although MacOS X doesn't use X11, neither do a lot of *nix platforms (SVGAlib, for example). And since it is essentially a BSD, i say "Welcome Mac developers!" On the other hand, if you have any questions about MacOS <10, then this isn't the right place.
Besides, most of the questions on this forum are along the lines of "how do i configure Linux," so someone asking even the most basic questions about OSX development are a welcome change.

While Oluseyi was being rather blunt, he is correct. If you''re talking OS X, check out those links, especially SDL. And I''ll also add these to the list:

http://nehe.gamedev.net
rm -rf /bin/laden

ok thanks. i was just wondering if their where tools anyone knew of that could be used to develop games for the Mac.

I''m sorry if I came across as too harsh; I merely wanted to make it clear that this is a UNIX forum. If the question was OS X-specific, well, there''s still little we can tell you. Cocoa is not UNIX; Aqua is not UNIX (and Apple even went after X "Aqua" skin authors at one point). So there really isn''t much we can offer you at that level.
If you had said something about sockets now - that''s different!
And I feel I did a good job by providing a bunch of links. Thanks to CmndrM for the additional OpenGL references.
That said, I agree with Shelrem. Even the most basic OS X questions would be a welcome change, so please don''t think we''re asking you to leave!
