Is there someone else but me that experiences problems with WinXP and Visual Studio 6.0? I ALWAYS get random hangups and general malfunction. The same version works PERFECLTY under Win98 and Win2K. I''ve updated the Java Runtimes for WindowsXP. And how about Visual Studio .NET? Is that something to invest?

Why did you update the Java runtimes?

It works fine on my system of the same config.

Which language are you using? I use it for VB and C++

WindowsXP has NO built-in support for Java due to
"incompability" with Sun Systems.

Therefore, Microsoft released a Java Pack (named Version 4) to implement Java support in XP.

However, I''m using C++ With OpenGL API.

Did you upgrade an earlier OS to XP or did you do a new install from the XP Disc?

Works for me. I got XP, rc2. And VS 6.0 Pro. Works like a top. Have done VB, C++, Java... No probs. Maybe you got a hardware incompatabilty?

Well, that might be the problem, but everything works great under Win2K and Win98.

Perhaps it''s the AMD CPU that''s a little bit spooky
Well, what'' your thoughts about .NET then?

Works fine here.

I have one weird problem with VC++6.0 (Standard edition) on WinXP Pro. I installed the SP5 for VC6 too.

Basically, if I have the ClassView tree opened for a class, and I make changes to a file. When I hit "Save All" button, it tells me that it can''t save that file. Then the class disappears from ClassView entirely. If I then hit Save All again, it works fine, and the class reappears in the ClassView.

Strangeness. But now I just make sure to hit Save All twice, each time I save.

this problem has been discussed before.... do you have NAV installed?

I _ALWAYS_ had problems with VC6 locking up on NT based platforms. All the way back to service pack 2 for VS6. Lockups and such when building. Always with the default config, always with all of the patches on my OSes (nt,2k,xp). It happened on just about every box I''ve ever run Visual Studio on.

It wasn''t common, it wasn''t even uncommon. It would just generate an exception maybe 1 out of 100 builds but that was enough to annoy the hell out of me.

Yes I do, actually. That would make sense if NAV is somehow interfering with the save function.

I''ve heard that Windows XP does not support quite a great deal of softwares and hardwares as well.

LOL. VisualStudio (6.0 & .NET) work fine on WinXP * though, i''ve never used the standard edition * .

I too always get random (and some not-so-random*) lock-ups and crashed using VS6 on just about any platform. VS.Net crashes less frequently, though I find it aggravatingly slow at times. I could crash VS6 and restart it faster than recording a macro with .Net

*Goto the dialog editor, go into ruler layout mode, grab and drag a drop-line, hit ctrl-z (while still dragging), boom! I think they may have fixed this in SP6 though.

VS6 and VS.net work like a champ on my XP box. I have NAV installed also.

On the other hand I tried that dialog ruler drag thing (and I have SP6) and boomie, there goes msvc .

I have the save problem too...

But even weirder... VC++ sometimes deletes project files and that is NOT funny.
