I am using Borland C++ 4.52. Is it okay to learn C and then C++? Or should I just drop C and go with C++? Is C++ replacing C completly, or will there still be a place for C? The problem is that I''ve started learning C (because I have a hard copy book on C) but I think it might behoove me to switch. I have 3 or 4 e-books on C++ (can''t remember which they are), so it''s not like I don''t have resources. "YOU APES WANNA LIVE FOREVER?" Starship Troopers by Robert A. I don't see C being used much anymore in game programming. If you want to do more general programming, not just games, learning C is a good idea. For example, most OS and device driver code is written in C rather than C++. Also, LaMothe's book are in C style rather than C++.

However this topic has been widely debated on the board before. I suggest you do a search to look at old arguments.

I my humble opinion C++ appears to be the more dominate. In the general programming / business area (my day job) it is without a doubt the more preferred choice. It seems to be going that way for games as well.

I''m personally a big fan of Objected Oriented Programming and recommend it highly. Its a big help in organizing and developing complex systems. However, there are still plenty of people who do C so if that''s your choice you won''t be alone. However, as noted, even if you jump straight into C++ you will be exposed to C so at some point whether you like it or not you will have to have some familiarity with it.

Since you already have 2 good answers here, and since, as SiCrane said, this has been discussed repeatedly and addressed in a couple of articles in the Start Here section, I''m closing this thread.
