Hi Folks I. SceneGraphs Is is feasible to use more than one scenegraph within a game engine? ie. one for the static world geometry and a second for all dynamically moving game actors ?? II. Model Formats The game engine im currenty working on is using the directx api. Is it best to stick with the x file format for all graphical actors AND the gameworld environmental data ( terrain, large buildings etc) or is the x format more suited to small game models. Also, im interested in creating my own model format as an alternative and to build knowledge, is this still a widely done thing in the industry or are more engines making use of other existing formats eg. MD2 ... Any insights would really help Thanks Robert Dick

I think noone will disagree if I say that the DirectX documentation about X files is dumb shit.

And it seems there''s quite a lot of code to write to use it.

I don''t really know if it''s really powerful, but personnaly I think I''ll stick with a Serialize approach.

(However when saving a class which contains pointers to "shared objects", like a mesh having a pointer to each of its materials classes, serializing can become a bit tricky, You''ll have to use a kind of mapping or something like that)
