So what''s the big difference between MS OpenGL, SGI OpenGL, and Mesa3D. I know they''re different implementations, but does the microsoft one work only on Windows? Does SGI/Mesa work on more thatn one OS?
That's just my understanding; I could be wrong.

So long as you are using the OpenGL API you are safe. These are different implementations of the libraries (back-end). Anyways, most (all) graphics card come with their own implementation of the OpenGL libraries, adapted to the hardware. MS''s GL (opengl32.dll), SGI''s GL (opengl.dll on windows) and Mesa (hmm... libmesa.so ?) are software implementations.

hmm... libmesa.so ?

I think MesaGL is just libGL.so and libGLU.so by default.
