i am having trouble profiling an applet. The applet is a client of my server. the server can be profiled with the command line java -Xrunhprof:cpu=times Server but the client cant be profiled with java -Xrunhprof:cpu=times sun.applet.AppletViewer client.html It throws an exception Exception in thread "main" java.util.MissingResourceException: Can't find resource for bundle sun.applet.resources.MsgAppletViewer, key appletpanel.badattribute .exception at java.util.ResourceBundle.getObject(Unknown Source) at java.util.ResourceBundle.getString(Unknown Source) at sun.applet.AppletMessageHandler.getMessage(Unknown Source) at sun.applet.AppletPanel.showAppletStatus(Unknown Source) at sun.applet.AppletPanel.init(Unknown Source) at sun.applet.AppletViewer.(Unknown Source) at sun.applet.StdAppletViewerFactory.createAppletViewer(Unknown Source) at sun.applet.AppletViewer.parse(Unknown Source) at sun.applet.AppletViewer.parse(Unknown Source) at sun.applet.Main.run(Unknown Source) at sun.applet.Main.main(Unknown Source) at sun.applet.AppletViewer.main(Unknown Source) anyone know a way to profile an applet ??? btw, the applet works fine in the browser but not appletviewer i managed to run the profiler by entering the command line in the jre applet in my control panel, but the profile report was incomplete (i think the profiler didnt complete run). The profile report was just the threads and not the cpu times.. { Stating the obvious never helped any situation !! } [edited by - jwalker on April 11, 2002 5:02:59 AM]

Why not write the applet so that it can double as an application? All you need to do is throw in a main finction and initalize an AppletWindow class with tthe appropriate info. Then you can profile like any other app.

yup .

thats what i did, but i was afraid that the applet will
run differently because of the virtual machine being different..

thanks anyway, its not that important to profile it since its so slooooooooooww...
