Console games...

Original Post
I''m confused. Console gaming? Like the GameCube, for instance? Well, I doubt you''ll find any tutorials on that anywhere (although I could be wrong). A quick search on Google should show some GBA development tutorials, as well as SNES and so forth. If you wanted to make a GameCube game, just use C/C++ and OpenGL. Learn PowerPC ASM for optimization. For XBox, learn C/C++, DirectX, and PIII ASM, I guess. Actually, this is only my speculation. I have no idea. I know so little, in fact, that I don''t know why I bothered responding to this thread!

01: Get hired as a game programmer for a console game company.
02: Learn how to do it first hand.
03: Make a tutorial on it for the rest of the world
04: End
Alternative:
01: Dress up as a chicken
02: infiltrate Sony or Nintendo HQ
03: Steal all their secrets
04: If you get caught, goSub1
05: Make a tutorial on it for the rest of the world
06: End
Sub1:
07: Cluck like a chicken
08: Goto step four.

Console or windows????
If you want to write for consoles, I know there are few C/C++ libraries out there for GBA. You can also get some non-nintendo developer gameboy (plugs into your computer) for much cheaper that nintendo will sell it to you for.
For windows, you will want to learn D3D or OpenGL, and some basic data structures like Linked Lists.
BTW, it doesn''t sound like you have a lot of programming experience - "Quake 1 is a simple game".
If you are not a programmer, then you need to buy a C/C++ book and a compiler. Some books might come with a compiler, like "Ivor Horton''s Beginning Visual C++ 6.0".
Proceeding on a brutal rampage is the obvious choice.

Q1 is definitely not a simple game.
I think you mean console as in the text-consoles in win or linux etc, am I right?
First of all, that''s not very useful, since there is hardware acceleration. But, if you''re like I was before, really eager to learn software rendering, sure go ahead. The problem is, what console?
Btw, as many ''posters'' have told you: Quake is NOT a simple game. It was hi-tech at its time and still is. Much of what was written in quake 1 is still in use in today''s games.

Microsoft has started a pogram called the "Xbox Incubator Program" which enables serious programmers to get a copy of these SDK''s while not being able to release any games to the public.
They''ve also canned it.
