I''ve got an AMD Athlon 1GHz, GeForce 3, 512MB RAM. The DirectX SDK sample programs only run at about 60fps when running in 1280x1024x16 full screen. Is this normal for those of you who have a similar system, or does this sound a little low? Perhaps these sample programs aren''t optimized at all? Just wondering if it''s not just my dumb computer. Thanks! Ryan

Is V-sync enabled? Right click on your desktop, go to properties, go under settings -> advanced. Depending on your video card there should be some option to turn V-sync on and off.

So should I turn it on or off? I only have that option in the OpenGL settings under the video properties.

If the refresh rate at 1280x1024x16 is only 60 fps, then that''s the maximum any app will run at, as long as vsync is enabled. If you can turn it off for DirectX, the app should run as fast as it can. You can also try to set a higher refresh rate through Display Properties->Settings->Advanced->Adapter, but be sure your monitor supports the new refresh rate!

If you use the Nvidia reference driver you will not find the option to turn off V sync (at least I have not). Try the driver delivered with your graphics card!! (but it can be buggy...)
I think 60 fps is enough, is not it? If you want to do performance testing you can try windowed mode with the sample programs!!! Windowed mode is not limited by V-sync!
