Sigh. You can make nearly anything with any newer language.
You seem to be a complete newbie to programming (no offence) by the the mannerism of your speech, so I suggest going out and buying some good beginner''s programming books. Just ask the people that work there for help.
Btw, its Visual Basic, not Basics.

All of the mainstream languages (Java, C, Visual Basic, etc) are known as "complete". That means that anything you can do in one, can be done in the other. Of course, some languages have extra features which make expressing certain ideas simpler to express than in other languages, but that doesn''t mean you can''t achieve the same thing in another way.
It''s only when you talk about specialized languages (functional languages, like Haskell come to mind, as do others) where there are things that''s it''s phyically impossible to do.

I''m affraid this information is not quite right. There are few marginal examples that cannot be implemented in some languages (for example, with VB6.0, you cannot produce a non-COM dll). Also, some languages will produce more efficient code than others.
I added this comment just because your post sounds very simplist, like VB, C and Java were equivalent, and it would be only a matter of translation between them. It is not - very often it is a trade simplicity for efficiency and/or code size, and so forth.
Back to the original poster: yes, you could do a 2d MP game using VB. DirectX 8 can be used from VB (just to your information), and if the game aims on a smart idea rather than on ultra-complex (and computational intensive) graphics, it could be a success.
The code VB produces is in most cases MUCH slower than equivalent code produced by (Visual)C(++) - this is a fact.

You can if you kep it simple, remember that VB is very slow...
I find the bigest problem is refreshing graphics during a game loop. Any refresh or CLS is too easy to notice and the screen flickers... so use directX and you might get away with it. The other probl;em with vb is multythreading... in that you can''t!, so if you have a lot going on like sounds playing, grphics being drawn and AI''s thinking then vb may not handle it and you will notice a lag.
I recomend C++ if you know it, if you must use VB then don''t be too upset when it goes slower than my amiga 500>LOL.

Modern VB is not that slow. In some cases it will be slower than C/C++/Delphi/Whatever, but as always, it''s what you do with it that matters. It''s just as easy to make a slow program in C as it is to make a slow program in VB. But in some cases, you can only get really high performance using C/C++/Delphi/Whatever.
However - I''m not an expert on VB - I''m sure there''s someone here who can provide a more detailed analysis of VBs strengths and weaknesses.
