BASIC compiler

I''m looking for a compiler that can compile BASIC code. Preferably free and for Windows 95 or later.

Quick BASIC 1.1 is free, and can be found on many DOS disks, and the Win95 disk in the "olddos" folder (some name similar to that).

This is none of my business really, but why are you looking for a BASIC compiler?

I work for the computer support department for a school within a university, and one of the professors wanted this.

QBasic 1.1 is an interpreter, so even if you do find it, you won''t be able to compile with it. QB 4.5 is a compiler, but good luck finding it.

You can find it if you search around google enough. Its not free though and if you download it your breaking the law yada yada yada. But since you cant buy it anywhere who really cares...

I am sure MS still cares about it, whether or not it is still for sale. If you wan''t it then do your transaction via email, because this site does not condone even maybe-warez, and as such it is between the individuals themselves to have a concience. Just as long as links warez are not in these forums, or discussion on where to find warez or appz it is all ok.

Discussion about the morality of Warez/Appz is allowed and has been debated to eternity (a bit of searching will yeild those topics). Sorry if you think I am being unfair on a product that may just as well be freely distributed, but I have to follow rules myself...

Wow, it''s been forever since I''ve used QBasic, I forgot 1.1 was an interpreter. Sorry about that. There is 4.5 and 7.1 or something floating around, however, that would be illegal. Try PowerBasic or some "new" basic compiler. However, I don''t remember which ones are free, and which ones cost money.

As much as I feel like bitching about you complaining for discusing how to download a 10 year old program, then I remember what happened to 2600 just for linking to something that was questionable and understand the reason for you all being so strict about this (yes i know it had nothing to do with warez, but i guess similar). My appologies.

any idea if it is still possible to buy it? i have a proper copy somewhere but most my old floppies are lost, and i feel like some nostalgia.

surely if you can buy it it wouldn''t be that much.........
