I am writing an applet which allows a simple game to be played accross a network (server/ client) and also has chat facilities. It works fine when i run it under JBuilder but as soon as i run it in a browser no connection is made. Any help would be greatly appriciated, thankyou.

You didn''t supply too much information about the program, but first thing that comes to mind is Java versions... are you sure that they both use same version of java?

I am using Jbuilder 4, which i am sure is JDK 2, i am not using swing. If i use the borland applet veiwer it all works fine. I am also fairly sure i have the latest plugins installed on my machine for the browser (ie 6).

Hi,

I think that Appletviewer run your applet as a "trusted applet", whereas your browser is more restrictive. I think it could explain why you can''t open any connection.

Maybe you should deals with security manager...

I have reduced security to none and still no connection.
I set the program to output put any errors to the textarea and nothing. the program seems to hang when it looks for the server.

I have been playing with my program on a couple of machine.
Both have the latest Java plug installed.
No1 machine Has Win ME and IE 5.5 my prog works as should.
No2 machine has Win98 se and IE 6. Does not work properly.

No 1 returns the local IP as a proper address and the name of the machine and No2 returns "localhost/127.0.0.1" so i am assuming it not letting me access outside of the browser.

As for speed. I have done a Pong style game and the speed seems to be erratic, Browser/applet viewer not relevant.
