Somewhere I read PR uses a unique giant texture map for terrain rendering. What is the (average) size of this texture? I think a 2048x2048 map would be enough for large sized landscapes, but in this case you will have about 8Mb of video memory occupied ( supposing 16 bit textures )! Isn''t it too much for the most of the video cards?

Hi Naive,
The Trick here is that the land demo actually breaks the terrain texture (ideally 2048x2048) into 256 seperate tiles each (128x128), then the texture memory only needs to worry about the textures it can see. These 128x128 tiles are then UV Mapped over an 8x8 section of the terrain.

Cheers

This is the same method I use in my landscape demo, but it produces a ''border'' effect, due to linear sampling. How do PowerRender avoids this?
