Combining different objects

Hi there, I''m straining my brain thinking about this, so I would appreciate a few pointers, how would you achieve such an effect as vweps? What I''m getting at is how would you link together different polygonal models to form a coherent object. If anyone knows of any documents, has any explanations, please let me know. Regards, -Mezz
