I cant give yall too much information about my rpg ideas online untill someone is willing to to help me create this game. The name of my game is Magi Quest. It is multi chaptered however; the plot changes. The first chapter is in the middle of a world war. (Thanks to some arrogant world leader and his ambition to gain riches illegally) In the second chapter, the player finds out about his plans to search for a enchanted gem. The gem remains a mystery untill the 3rd chapter. In the 3rd chapter, the gem shatters and the being that was trapped inside was freed. This "bieng" I put in the game is an ancient foe however; you just dont chase after him. You will be searching for sacred equipment that was once used to seal this being with. Though this is all I can tell you, you may email me (lead4sulfite@yahoo.com) or question me online further about my game. Arigato!~

Just a tip: You can''t get people excited/interested until you give them enough details. Forget story stuff; if you want programmers, you need to give them implementation specifics (2D? 3D? Iso? Sprawling landscape? Dungeon crawl? etc, etc).

Good luck.

Oh, moved to help wanted.

Im currently programming my own rpg in C. The graphics are going to be 2d but the gameplay will be non linear and very in depth, with a huge world full of many diffrent races/creatures, lots of cities and villages etc. What im looking for basically is a partner or group of partners that can provide the art. I can do all technical programming. I dont know how close to your rpg this is, but perhaps we can make some sort of combination of our ideas. If interested email me ca_priest@yahoo.com, you can reply on here as well but incase i dont make it back here soon enough it will be easier to email.
...and that's where I saw the leprechaun...he told me to burn things.

Ok, so I''ll give you more information however; I am in the process of writing out the storyline (Background history and chapter summaries etc..)

I would like Magi Quest to be made in 2d 3/4''s overhead view. (Ex. Chrono Trigger) My ideas for landscapes are close to modern day, greek, and futuristic tile setings.

I still dont know what you mean by Dungeon crawl. If It has to do with continuous dongeon runthroughs, heck no! There are some dongeons but not alot like D&D, Nox, and Diablo.

If you like puzzle solving and mystery, then you would like helping me create this game.

Solving puzzles is a big part of the 2nd and 3rd chapter. What do you think? The answer wont be revealed to you just by a few battles fought. IT REQUIRES THINKING!

Unlike most RPGs, they have very few puzzle solving and alot of fighting. The First and 3rd chapter of of Magi Quest is filled with fighting. Don''t even think about the 2nd chapter to be "annoying" or "boring" because, IT WONT BE! Some of these puzzles may be mozaics and mazes however; they wont be in the game without a "point in existence".

As for the mystery elements, you just be told flat out "who you are looking for" or "What is there to be done"; (Thats why there are walkthroughs to provide you with this information)
instead one mystery will lead to another.

How? Join my team and you will find out! If you don''t like mystery or Puzzle solving, don''t bother replying to this post.

just some advice. if you have a trilogy (or more) of games (assuming each chapter will be a seperate game a la shenmue) you should really think about how to keep gameplay basically similar between the games. many ppl may find it distressing to see that the second game is nothing like the first one and filled with lots of complex logic problems. then in the 3rd one you go back to the style of the first one, especially since now you will get the ppl who loved the second one angry that the 3rd one is different again. instead keep it somewhat consistent. adding a more of a puzzle elemnet is great, just dont make it too much more.

most rpgs i have played were not just about fughting and had a decent amount of puzzle solving. even if it was cleverly hidde that you were solving a puzzle and executed well because the game flowed. shenmue was an excelent example of this. secret of mana also had some puzzle elements. ffX is filled with many puzzles. unfortunatly they tend to be repetive puzzles, and dont move the story well. personally maze "puzzles" fall under that catagory. going through dugeons is maze enough for me. remeber puzzles can be simple as getting the right key for a door, or as complex as involving the entire game to complete since you solve a little more as you go along.

as for mystery elements. dont use hiding information (in the game not the board) via mysteries as a way to lessen the story writing required. creating complex mysteries is VERY difficult and ussually require many sub plots that push the main plot along. again shenmue was excelent with this. unfortunatly i cannot reveal tips on this using shenmue since it would spoil the game for those who have not played it (especially the sequel which definatly was worth importing fomr the UK).but basically you will have thngs that are mysteries, and are revealed later. however you cannot expect to never explain (or what too long to explain) the mysteries and leave the player completely baffeled. its always good to watch some mystery movies or read some good books to help get a feel for the amount of information to give. by the end almost everything should be explained and wrapped up. while you can leave a few things up to the imagination of the player, its best to explain the main plot. also when completing the 1st and 2nd game, they should end with some sort of revelation that will lead to the next game and keep the player in suspense. if you got a dreamcast, go play shenmue. its a good way to see some mysterious elemnets working. also play some of the older final fantasies (which had better stories).

this was a bit of a ramble, but hopfully you get mu drift.

Advice=Inspiration

I am postponing the events in the Title "Magi Quest" to the second chapter. In this case, it will be refered to as "the second game."

The name of the game as a whole is a world I have put together known as BETA PRIME. The chain of events that occur in the trilogy are centered around those with power trying to obtain the one item that will enable them to triumph over all: THE CRYSTAL OF AFFINITY.

The first game is at the beginning of Beta Prime's world war however; it was the birth of "TAZIOSU" that revived the economically desintegrating world to a global confrontation. The Crystal of Affinity comes in to play when the Beta Prime alliance find out that their enemy, Julius Nizzara, Dicatator of Narsagon, is planning to search for the Crystal of Affinity. In response to this, the PC's are introduced.

In the first game, Sharla Tronan, a world known mercinary is given a life threatening mission involving the retrival of this crystal. She is to find it before Nizzara's workers do.

The reason why she fails is:

1. Nizzara's workers overwhelmed her with their superior "technique" instead of power. This is a trait that all inhabitants of Narsagon, including the new nation that will emerge from Narsagon in the 2nd game, has.

2. Sharla had the Crystal however; she was followed on her way back to her job and was ambushed.

With the Crystal of Affinity now in Nizzara's possesion, his "toy" is complete. This toy of Nizzara is his long finished "invasion weapon" he was planning to crush the Beta Prime Alliance with.

Of course you will encounter others that will join Sharla in her journey. As for the Taizosu, it emerges as a "new type of mech". Created by the Zenese of Zenlo, the Taizo (Taizosu is plural) can withstand magical attacks.

This "dimension" I created for my game portrays the mech as the "Ultimate Mobile Warefare Unit" however; the Taizo is considered the "Utimate Combat Unit". Why? WuT dO yOu ThInK aBoUt ThE cRyStAl AlLoY bIeNg InTrOdUcEd? (Lol! I did that to state the obvious to yall!)

N-E wayz (lmao), the Taizo is the key to defeating Nizzara's toy.
The game ends after its destruction however; the possesion and playing "keep away" with Nizzara using the Crystal of Affininty as the "thing to keep it away from him" falls into play.

But that is not the case, the crystal disappears without a trace.
The next game starts when someone else finds the Crystal. His intensions may be good, though it will soon fall into the wrong hands. (Ex. The dragon balls from DBZ)

when you say something like (Ex. The dragon balls from DBZ) that means you are stealing ideas from someone else, heh. anyhoo i know you are merely borrowing, i find it ammusing that you state that you are using an idea from another source yet tell ppl not to steal your ideas.

your ideas sound a standard anime style plot. so dont worry, they have been done already to an extent.

you should compleetly write your WHOLE story before you begin the game so you can split it up coprrectly (dont post it here, since it will be quite long).

anyhoo, programmers need more details on gamplay mechanics. they dont really care about the story, they care more about the art (ie how far along is it) levels (you said iso like chrono trigger, chrono trigger is simple overhead 2d tile based like most console rpgs).

also silly alternating caps in the dialog is in poor taste.

The story is already written. I got started on that right after i read A person's last post. I appreciate you trying to help me; thanks

What should I do? I like my ideas. The crystal serves its purpose! Every empire on Beta Prime wants the crystal for power. Without it, these posts are typically DEAD. I came up with the idea that the crystal of Affinity emits a great amount of energy. One of the world empire's leader wants it so he can power his invasion weapon.

You have to realize that all of Beta Prime's resources are diminshing because they lost their center of Commerce! This place kept every record of every single trade that was exported out of the country. (ex. the World Trade Center) When the twin towers went down, so did the economy. Not as much but, still enough for our world leaders to to join president Bush in the hunt for Bin Lauden.

In Beta prime's scenario, Julius Nizzara, needs not to hide. He has his army of MAGES to protect him. As for Bin Lauden, He hides cuz he his men cannot fight all the armies that are against them. This also includes all the bombing the United States have done on their hidding places. In a matter of fact, THEY DONT HAVE MAGIC! This is a big difference.

Eventually, just like Afganistan, Nizzara's country will have a revolution. Some time during the middle of my game. This is after the crystal of Affinity has been found. Unfortunately, Nizzara's special forces are the finders.

One more thing, when I was refering to the dragon balls, I was saying that they fall into the wrong hands as well as anything else that many people want to get their hands on. (ex. Every country on Earth wants to get their hands on nuclear weapons. Today, MOST OF THEM HAVE IT!)

Also, If the programmers just want to know about the art and how long it is, I can just tell them what they want to know:

- The game is a 2d based rpg in 3/4's view
- All sprites are to be drawn "Anime style"
- The battle system allows all characters to move on the battle field

Thats all I have for now however; if you wish to question me further about this, go ahead!

I am still wating for more replies. I have given "those programmers" the information they need to help make my game. Also, I haven''t heard from A PERSON. So far he/she is the only one giving good advice.

Hello? Any of yall out there? I still need a programmer in my team.

So far I have the Following:

Storyboard Desighner (Me. duh!)
Character Artist
Monster Artist
Map Desighner (Me two)

Sound & Music desighn (I am also doing this however; I still need someone to help with the sound FX)

I need the following:

Battle System Programmer
Story line Programmer (Inserting game scripts etc..)

Graphics Desighner (programming the 2d 3/4''s overhead view world *Is this potostion necessary?*)

Once I have my team together, we will discuss whether or not they are going to do this for free. If no, we''ll work something out...

OK!

Ideas are great and even looks much better if projects are completed. The story of yours sounds like a big game.

Any how ... I liked it.

What will be your choice of language ,graphics library and the platform (Operating Systems) you wanna make the game work.

About me ...

Well, I have programmed a lot in C/C++ and VB. But now I have just turned to Win32. And want to stick to it.

If you think there is a place for me, then reply.

Count me IN!!!

I can survive anything ... even NUKES!!!

I have recieved way too many emails about programmers who want to join my team!

I still have yet to find the following:

2d graphic desighner
An additional 2d "anime" sprite desighner

If you can do both, I will accept you!

So far I have 3 temporary members (excluding me and my main artist.)

Please email me at lead4sulfite@yahoo.com if you are interested.

Just thought I''d give some quick input. I''ve seen a LOT of posts here on GDnet over the years along the lines of ''2d/3d artist wanted..'' and they seldom result in any serious replies. My guess is that this is a site primarily directed towards programmers/designers, and as such, those people are in abundance, while more ''artsy'' people are lacking. I''d suggest looking for a more graphics-oriented website for artist, I''m sure you''ll have more luck.

Good luck hunting!

*Sigh*

Unfortunately, all of my team members are having a hard time meeting each other. Thanks to the Time zones, we have no way of having a "live" chat. If it ever happens, I dont know.

So I ask all of those C++ prgrammers, and 2d tile ans sprite desighners to please email me. I am only accepting those in the EST (I.E Ohio).
