*opens the door, gives you a hug* Welcome :D I just realized that everyone posts a lot of messages, but do you guys actually get a chance to know one another? Introduce yourself. :D I''m new here, & I wanna know who my fellow lounge ppl are. Hi, *shakes hand*, I''m Lil. I''m 19 year-old girl who isn''t a game programmer, but just curious as to what it is. I''m going into Life Science next year at U of Toronto (in my province, there is a grade 13, hence, 19 is the right age). I have 3 turtles, I like anime (Cowboy Bebop, Kenshin, Outlaw Star, Shadow Skill, Love Hina), and I think this is an awesome forum with really great people. While we''re at it, grab a drink, turn on the music. We''ll make a party event out of this.

Party, eh? Sounds good to me ...

My name is Marty, and I am 19 years old. I''ll be finishing up my second year of Comp Sci at the University of Victoria starting tomorrow (going to school in the summer - the bane of Co-op students everywhere). I like basketball, and I listen to hip-hop and techno.

I''m twenty years old. I find programming to be interesting and handy, although I''m usually not motivated enough to code. My main hobbies are skiing and mountain biking. I like all types of music, but I mainly listen to rock. I focus on grunge, stoner rock, heavy metal, and indie (if that can actually be considered a type of music).

My name is Keith Rosenberg I have a gaming problem.

When I am at home all alone I turn on the playstation and play Crash Team Racing. And when people are here, I turn on the playstation and play Crash Team Racing. And when a girl is over trying to kiss me, I''m too busy trying to turn on my playstation to play Crash Team Racing.

I also have 7 memory cards filled with Final Fantasy 7 saves, and 5 more slots on my computer.

And furthermore, the girls in video games turn me on more than the ones in reality.

Do I have a problem? Can someone help me plx?

(by the way, some of this is an exxagerration of the truth, I''ll admit, but I really do play CTR alot and I really do have 7 memory cards filled with FF7 stuff)

It''s another one of those list threads. This is like kindergarten and we all sit in our chairs in a circle on the first day of class and introduce ourselves.

Lilwonder, you wouldn''t make such demands at a real party, would you? No, I think you''d cast an eye about, target someone interesting, sidle up beside them, and strike up a conversation about... something, maybe anime, or turtles. Or would you just be a wallflower?

Now, the only real thing I have against list threads is the lack of dialogue. Nobody actually discusses anything; they just proclaim themselves (or their interests) and then leave.

I prefer discussion. Unfortunately, the only long discussions we get in this forum are the political threads.

So, what kind of turtles do you have?

Hi Bishop_pass! LOL Yeah, it is kinda like a kindergarten "Hi, my name is ___ " thread isn''t it? You''d have to pardon me for that. All week I have been babysitting and going to job interviews where I''m evaluated on this sort of thing in large groups. It''s to see how I''ll handle kids.

I have Brazilian turtles. I bought them from Chinese pet stores which did not provide a specific species name to it. I''ve yet identified it myself (I''m still trying.).

& as for how I''d act in a party...I''d probably be running about, either organizing it (to make sure everything''s well prepared and under control), or helping the host/hostess. It''s what I do. & if everything is well and in place, I''d probably be going around to make sure no one''s left out. If that''s taken care of too, then I go to my friends and chat away, maybe meet some new people.

Keith, Don''t worry, you''ll be fine. Girls aren''t THAT bad. We don''t bite...well, most of the time we don''t :D

GlassJaw, which highschool? Do you live in Scarborough?

Apoztel, good job You having fun, yes?

mtw, I''m getting a bike as a grad gift I''m by no means a mountain biker, just looking for a recreation bike. Any suggestions as to what I should look for when I purchase one? & I''ve never gone skiing before, is it hard to learn?

bishop_pass, do you have any pets of your own? :D

sporty, we don''t like you, we simply love you *hugs*

g_skrewdriver, sorry man, I ruined your theory about "no women" on this forum. Then again, I just got here today-- and I''m not a game programmer anyway LOL & btw, congrats on your 100th post. More beer in the fridge, help yourself. Some hard lemonade too, if you want some.

Hey Marty University of Victoria as in out in B.C.? Or do you mean Victoria College of U of T? Hope you had fun this year. Any advise to us freshmen-to-be?

& as for the U of T student, I''m not at U of T YET, though I have been in love with the place since I was a kid. I went to the Varsity Blues football game when you guys won last fall :D Great game guys! Diablo cafe? Is that where I''d be spending my next few years?

Lohrno, keep that smile going

Make sure the bike fits you or you won''t have a fun time biking. The stand over height (the distance between the top tube and your crotch when standing over it) varies with the type of biking you plan to do. For road biking, one inch might be fine. There are more factors, such as adjusting your seat height so that you leg is almost straight when the pedal is all the way down, but I can''t remember them all. Ask the person who is helping you out if you''re not sure what fits. Also try out many different bikes before buying one; ask if you can take a test ride.

Because you''ll be more of a recreational rider, there''s no need to buy expensive bikes. One thing you probably will want to upgrade is the saddle. Just about every bike comes with an uncomfortable one.

That depends on how much attention you put to learning. This year was my first year of skiing, and I became an intermediate level skier with some advanced level skills by fifteen days. I don''t know how it is for others. Lessons can be helpful. The learning curve compared to snowboarding (as I''ve been told by someone else) is this: snowboarding is harder than skiing in the beginning, but after a little while you can master it faster than skiing, whereas with skiing you can at least stand up and go down a slope in the beginning, but mastering it takes time.

bishop_pass does have a point. Member profiles need a field for personal info so you can write a few paragraphs about yourself and be done with it. This topic comes up every other week from some newb on most boards I frequent. No offense, but it gets a tad annoying.

Good point I''d have to agree. I had to post this due to the lack of the "personal info" space. This is one of the few ways I could get to know people

Red flag?

You mean me pouring people drinks? No no, non-alcoholic unless someone specifically asks for it. Why''s there a red flag going up?

thanks mtw :D I''ll keep it in mind when I buy my bike. I saw this REALLY nice bike last week...too bad it was too tall for me
