So called *hackers*

Original Post
Before I start I want to tell you that the following has nothing to do with game development.
OK.
I was just on IRC with a couple of my friends, I created a channel, they all joined and we started talking about this and that. When suddenly Mr. IWannaBeAHacker (that was not his nickname) shows up and starts telling us how "gay" and "stupid" we are. When I asked him to shut up and talk to us correctly or leave, he started talking about "hacking"
our computers and destroying our systems. At that point I was just laughing. Then mIRC told me that he wanted to send me sumthin called Nukeprot.exe. I realized he was trying to send my the NetBus server (for those of you who dont know NetBus is a TCP/IP program that lets you have remote control over the "server" computer). I refused then told him that his attempt had been twarted and that NetBus was not real hacking. Then MrFirewall told me that he was trying to ICMP "nuke" me. I promply kicked him and banned him. What a llama (sorry too much TFC=).
So my real question is: has that ever happened to you or am I the only one being targeted by idiotic morons?
(sorry if this has nothing to do with games, I just like to talk thats all
)
I haven''t myself, since I don''t spend much time on IRC (anymore) but there are really alot of what you call "hacker wannabies" that uses other real hacker''s programs just to (what they think) show people how good they are. They are just people that can''t have a normal conversation with someone, therefore they want to revenge him/her by messing up their computer, i.e. scared and coward bastards.

i go to hacker sites occasionally and read the text files, some of them are very interesting, in my opinion... once i ran into a jerk off somewhere, a chat room or something, and he started threatening that he''d hack my computer.. so i perfectly calmly went on about the different ways i could crash his computer (which was all a bunch of bs), using all the vocabulary and technical knowledge i had at the time (this was before i got into programming).. and next thing i knew he was apoligizing and asking me to please not crash his computer.. it was quite humourous..
i''m a rather large fan of fuzzyai''s approach...if you''re careful, you can usually determine whether or not there''s a danger of actually being attacked...and how nasty it could be. usually they''re just kids who need to feel important and accepted. kind of sad, really.
but it''s always good to have at least a general knowledge of computer security...don''t browse with java-script or other automatic code-running features enables in your browser, don''t open untrusted attachments (especially .exe''s!), and use a virus scanner (unless you use *nix...and then, don''t run as root).

Look behind you! A three-headed monkey!

I thought that it is an agging problem, but met a guy who s 32 and still doing nothing creative; he is breaking into other computers instead of that.
And, about the subj.: Creating something is much more difficult, that destructing something... That is where that problem arise from.

Dude every time I use mIRC or get junk mail there will be people sending me .exe''s named "abomb.exe" or "really_bad_ass_virus.exe." The thing is, you have to authorize these files to run, so it never works, which seems so futile.
Basicly some people saw Sneakers too many times and think that they''re james bond, with nicks like ZeroCool.
I agree that true hacking is creating something sweet that nobody else is doing and lamers basicly just cut and paste harmless attacks from hackers.com and try to delete somebody''s HTML from a university server.

Who ever says they are going to hack into your computer, isn''t a real hacker. A real hacker wouldn''t say "Hey man, I''m gonna hack your computer, so you better go away," or something like that. I don''t think hackers tell the pentagon they are gonna hack them...If they do...They are moronic people tryin'' to make you think they''re powerful.

I''ve been hacked. I was so stupid I took that program from my "friend" :mad. It contained a simple game and a server program for SubSeven. Then my computer got very messed up and my net connection was gone for a long time. That''s why I never use ICQ anymore. It has about 1000000 security leaks (that''s one more than in Internet Explorer
). For example, the other user can see your IP even if you set it to invisible, he can send you files without your permission and use the ICQ program itself as a server :mad.
I''m not sure about these things, just something I''ve heard.

It sounds like you people want AtGuard. AtGuard monitors all network connection to and from your computer, and you can choose to block any of them you don''t want to, i.e. using your computer as a firewall. It can also block ads on the Internet.
All I''ve found is this link, but if you search on Altavista for AtGuard, you''ll find more and newer versions:

I just firewall myself in. Even at home I use a NAT router with packet filtering. Between those two features, most self-proclaimed hackers can''t even touch my personal computer.
Not to mention the fact that most of the time I''m in linux, and they try to send me windows executables.
virus.exe?
whatever
