I was just wondering if there is way to test for the stencil buffer? I need to know if I have one before I execute some things in my code.

glGetIntegerv( GL_STENCIL_BITS ...);

If your stencil buffer has 0 bitplane, you don''t have one.

The problem is that if you don''t have a hardware stencil and you request one, you''ll get a software stencil buffer, which will slow your app down to the point of being unusable, and there''s no way to detect this. glGetIntegerv( GL_STENCIL_BITS ...) will still report you have 8-bits of stencil buffer.
