maybe you l33t hax0r types know; IE has been freezing up on me anytime I open it. It''ll load my start page (does this for any page) and freeze the second it''s done. I''m posting this with Opera, for those who''re wondering. Is this some bug/virus known to you guys? I upgraded to 6.0 and it worked ... for a week. Then same problem again. Installed the latest security update; nadda. Any ideas? I is very conpuzzled ..... Chris Barry (crbarry at mts.net) My Personal Programming Depot

That''s IE6 for you. It has the same features as 5.5 but ten times the bugs. I used to run it on 98, and it crashed all the time and broke my system to the extent that I had to install 2K. On 2K it''s just been unstable and buggy, which is why I use mozilla.

Did you just recently switch to I.E. or has it been running fine up until now? Not that I have an answer for you, but I find it funny that I''ve been running I.E. exclusively at home on Win98 for years virtually trouble free, until just a few weeks ago. My problem is that half the time it''s performing an illegal operation by the time I visit a site or two. Even weirder, at about the same time, I started having the same problem with I.E. at work. I''m now using Mozilla for Windows.

The ultimate solution: Mozilla !... Excellent browser. Try it once, and you''ll be addicted (esp. to tabbed browsing)

Since I upgraded to IE 6 (running Win98 SE) I''ve had no problems with IE. Maybe something is messing with IE?

My brother has been having the same problems with IE (I haven''t had such problems yet). His problems started right after installing a couple pieces of software. One thing you might want to quickly check is in the "windows\downloaded program files" folder and check the properties of every file you see there. In each properties, you''ll see a code base, make sure the URL is from a reputable company. Some may be causing your IE to crash. If it''s still happening, you might have a corrupted file somewhere (that''s tough to track down).

And it's going to r0xx0r Internet Explorer

Just make sure you attend the party. There is a party in most of the popular cities out there

I had also IE problem (not on my computer). One day it just started locking up. I found that there were installed Gator-system. I don't know hat that's actually but it throws popup-ads sometimes. I ran adaware and removed Gator from Startup and everywhere and it's working now better again.

I use Mozilla in Linux and it's verry good. Sometimes it hangs when I'm listening music at the same time.

Oh yeah and in Mozilla you can disable unrequested windows too

I was thinking of trying AdAware; I guess I''ll do that. In any case, I''ll try Mozilla too (still wouldn''t mind having IE working again though). Thanks guys

Just some quick questions.

Have you tried restoring your registry from a backup ?
Have you run SFC or similar utility to check for file corruption ?
Have you run scandisk to check the hardrive for errors ?
Does bootlog.txt report any unloaded drivers ?
(Make sure it is a recent copy and keep the old copy for comparison. Some drivers in the file are reported unloaded and that is normal.)
Has your computer bootup sequence changed in any way compared to before the problems occured ?
Has resources changed in comparison to before ?
