I''m just wondering if there is a book on dx by anyone who was involved in it''s creation.

Inside DirectX by Microsoft Press seems to be written by two guys who were actually on the team. At least that is what they lead you to believe when you read it. I am talking about the version that deals with the 5.2 SDK (I have no idea if it has been updated since then or not).
