It would be cool if we could see which articles were pending to be published on the frontpage. Give us an idea of how low you guys are getting, or how long it''ll be before our stuff gets published.... Good lord I've been here too long My bookmark list is HUGE. I dunno if what he said then still holds true today, but given our time constraints and all the other stuff we still have on the table... *cough*newsletter*cough* this would be pretty low-priority.

It's funny to think that now I too am scared to visit this forum and learn what the heck else you people want

Drew, funny that you were the last one to suggest this

But yeah, the reasons I mentioned in that thread still stand. I''m trying to get the article queue down to about a month though so I can more easily manage it. I made some changes to the process that should make it much easier.

Figured you guys had already discussed this. I dunno, maybe you ought to build a big list of ''ideas in consideration'' or ''ideas considered to be no good'' so that people can stop wasting your time.

Not to mention that the queue is probably altered when long-awaited or very useful articles are submitted, not to mention things like special coverage of conferences or whatever.

Well, sure; but some indication is better than no indication. People know when things like E3 are happening, they''ll be expecting disruption.

Do you guys really add each article manually, you don''t have some kind of automated queueing system?

We really have no choice. They have to be formatted to fit our layout (it''d look pretty unprofessional otherwise), though stylesheets help minimize the time spent there. I also need to edit them for grammar and spelling (which can be a huge task with a lot of submissions from people who don''t speak English natively). I also have to review them for technical correctness and relevance - and when I''m pressed for time, this is the one that slips, as I''m sure people have noticed on occasion.

Once that''s all done, though, the process of adding it to the site takes no more than a couple of minutes. I just copy and paste into templates and upload.

Wouldn''t it be faster if you only created the "printer friendly" version ? Even if I don''t want to print them, I always read articles in this format, which is much more comfortable IMO.

But I guess some people here just prefer the standard format...

You''ve just pointed out *the* main reason why I haven''t written anything yet!

Understood. But what if you checked them earlier, before you had to actually upload them? I know that created a whole new world of problems, but if the Articles Pending queue that we''re discussing here listed only the articles that have been approved, then it could work... if you had an automated system that would upload the next article, add it to the correct place in the articles pages, and post about it on the frontpage, then it shouldn''t be too hard to get it to display a list of the articles that it has stored for uploading.

I actually prepare them as the "printer friendly" version, and then decide where to insert breaks, and copy and paste them into templates. The whole process only takes a couple of minutes.

You shouldn''t worry about that. Most of the time, it doesn''t take that much effort, and in any case, based on your posts, I''d be surprised if an article written by you required a lot of editing.

I''ll think about doing that in the future. Right now, I want to focus on just getting caught up
