I''m so tired of sites that change the homepage and search page of my IE, is it possible to make the registry keys that are responsible for these settings read-only? I never found a setting in regedit for this, but you never know... If IE would have used a simple ini file for these settings, I could have made that one read only, but ooooh no, mister IE has to use registry.

Sadly, no. The closest you can get to that is to do some strangness with a remote registry - but that won''t let you make specific keys read/write only.

However, you can change the ''security'' settings in IE to prevent changes to your home and search pages, IIRC. Probably depends on your version of IE.

If you are using NT, registry keys are treated as system objects, which means that each one has an associated ACL. Hence, you can set the full range of permissions on any given key. In NT4 and Win2k, you need to use regedt32 to do this, and in XP, you can just use regedit.

Ooh, ic, I use Win2K, that''s nice.
But I have WinXP in my dorm room and I don''t think regedit there is the same as the regedt32 on this Win2K computer, but I''ll check it out again if I go there.
