Hey pplZ - I''ve got an odd problem under XP that I can''t get rid of (done all updates and stuff): There are a couple of "svchost" processes that constantly run on the PC; two of them over time will blow-up in processing requirement, taking up in excess of 80% of my CPU time. I can just kill the processes and they restart themselves in a docile mode; but a couple of hours later they explode again. I have no idea why and how to get rid of the problem... any suggestions?

Yes this is off topic. Why didn''t you post it somewhere appropriate?

Second question: Why do some many people seem to think lately that these forums are an extension of Microsoft''s technical support for Windows XP?

Maybe people think that this is a better source of information than Microsoft technical support. But I do agree 2 in such short notice..

My beef is that all these people looking for XP tech support have not even tried to get it from the person they got their soft(/hard)ware from (Microsoft in this case). People are only insulting themselves when they can''t engage in the tiny mental exercise of searching for an answer, and instead just dump it on these forums (and not even in the right forum, this was originally posted to turbo, the forum for Borland compilers).

In this case it took me 15 seconds to find this article on Microsofts tech support site.

Yes, and when you call Microsoft they try to help and insist that their answer is right, even when it doesn''t work they say it''s the only thing possible you can do. I ask somewhere else and get the answer which aparently is impossible.

What about me? What about Raven?

Well... *GrinZ* - I appreciate that inbetween all that going-on-about-stuff a useful link was provided.

I agree that people should search for answers at appropriate places. So you will all be happy to hear that I did indeed asked around in a number of places (and looked at the Microsoft site) - but from experience I know that it is best to try multiple places in search for answers; so I habitually include turbo when I have a problem.

The turbo people are a great bunch and a number of my problems have been resolved by people in such obscure places as turbo.

...besides - who would be more suitable to help a computer graphics programming geek except other computer graphics programming geeks? (Even if it is off-topic. )

Thanks again,
Henri

Lesson learned: Don''t call Microsoft. If you have the ability to post on this forum, you have the ability to use a search engine.
