I dont understand why some people dont like the new cell shaded Zelda. It looks really beautiful to me from the new videos i just saw. Plus wasent like always a cartony fun guy? The game always achived a seiousness(bad grammer) with the nice story line and charaters. Also, ive always liked Zelda because of the their great dungeons, im sure the game will hold on to stuff like that.
You uhh might want to comment on that in the Zelda thread that WAS here but was moved to the Lounge...

The reason I don''t like it is not because of the cel shading, but because of Link. No, he was not always a fun cartoony guy. He''s never been that. Sure he was a cartoon, because the gameboy/snes couldn''t handle 3D, but he did look human.
Apparently this new style is "anime". Which is a load of bull, becuase he used to look more like anime and now he looks like circle-form with one of the least used anime-eye-styles I know of.
And yes you should comment in the previous Zelda thread, but meh *shrugs*

every single zelda so far has been utterly amazing..... this new one looks like garbage :/

It will be the first zelda I won''t buy...

I agree. They could have inset his face a bit and puffed out his hair more like he was in the manuals for the SNES game. Then, at least, the player would get more of a sense of playing a hero instead of a Mario toadstool.

That''s what I see from a distance, I''ve never played the game. But if I were on the design team (which I wasn''t) that would have been my first feedback.
It's not what you're taught, it's what you learn.
but who cares what he looks like?
take a look at the gameboy Links, in DX where you see the pictures, he looks just like the GC Link.
Cell shadading is a lot harder to do , and in my opinion looks more better, take a look at the fire effect in this video.

plus with a amazing things like using the GBA to be a fairy for you using TWO Players!
I''ve never really been a big fan of Zelda -- never bothered completing any of the games (I felt they all got too repetative, even Ocarina of Time, which is now gathering dust). However, I''ve got to say that the new Link should have looked more like the original box art than the bloated Pokemon-head (seriously -- pop off his head, you have another Pokemon -- it''s not just a bad insult) they seem intent on throwing at people.

Mind you, I would rather see them give this treatment to Dragon''s Lair (which is SUPPOSED to look like this) than Zelda.

the reason for the odd look is simple. reality: the face is the most expressive part of a person (especially the eyes). because of this you must increase the size of the head and eyes to make it easy to see these features even when the charater is small in the screen. see any square rpg to see this (especially ff6). gamecube (like other consoles) is limited to 640x480 interlaced because of the tv. some games support progressive scan, but that makes litte difference since most ppl are still using normal video hookups (ie rf, rca, svideo).

also anime artwork just like american artwork has a variety of styles. anime just means the artwork is japanese (actually refers only to the animated shows/movies). apparently you dont realize that different artists have different styles, and some are actualy influecned from other cultures. take a look at the style of adam warren (Dirty Pair comic) or J. Scott Campbell (gen13). a decidingly japanese look. its all about what the artist decides best fits the needs of what is being accomplished. personally i think the new look is not as good as the instruction book, but its better then the cartoon and definatly works well. you must appreciate not only the look, but its function, since afterall its a GAME.

btw i feel the new look is better then the n64 look.
