Ok, I am having a time with Windows Me right now I don''t know what to do with it. Everytime I start the thing up I get different .dll errors and am not sure what''s causing them or what to do about it. I have also gotten a message saying there is a problem in the system registry and that windows is fixing the problem....I''m not sure that windows actually did anything to fix it. Two of the main .dll errors I get is kernel32.dll and kernel386.dll although I have gotten numerous others. If anyone could offer any suggestions on what has happened and what to do it would be greatly appreciated.

Go to start, run. Type in cmd or command. Then type in fdisk to format your drive. Now, take your Win2K cd and install it.

I woudln''t recommend Win2K, especially if you do any sort of gaming, or run any DOS programs... some will run, but few will run well, or correctly.

I recommend Win 98SE.

I''ve had no such problems with 2K. DOS emulation has been fine, and I''ve had no issues with any windows games either. In addition, it''s a lot more stable than 98.

I concur. Avoid Win9x at all costs. Use any flavor of NT; you will be happy. Now as for the original poster ... run scandisk, run scanreg, run Windows Update. Ensure that all of your components are using the newest driver. Try starting in safe mode, and seeing if the problem persists. Try a logged boot. Scan your computer for viruses. Try disabling all startup items.

I''ll third that. I haven''t had any problems with any games (or any other programs for that matter) in the 2 years I''ve been using Win2K. Much better than the daily crashes I had with Win98.

GTA3 causes a BSOD after about 10 minutes of play with my system using Win2K. Other than that I''ve had no issues with it.

As for the problem, you need to get all the latest updates for WinMe. If you haven''t reinstalled WinMe since you got your computer, it''s probably mucked up from use. The more stuff you install on your system the more likely Windows is to become a bit corrupted.

WinMe is a road apple. I''ve used Win2k since shortly after it was released, and while there were several issues at first, you can''t beat it for stability. XP is a bloated piece of shit, be sure you don''t step in it.

Using fdisk for a format? Not the brightest crayon in the box, are you?

Best way to fix WinME, un-install it

I''ve used the system recovery disc that came with my comp, but it didn''t help. Even after this I still get errors and the fdisk thing didn''t work.....so I''m back where I started....=(

IMO, Martee offers the best advice and I''ll quadruple what Myopic Rhino said - W2K beats the W98 demolition derby anyday... the last time I had a BSOD with it was on purpose playing around with the csrss backspace bug and that was months ago.

I opened up a few hundred mozilla processes to try and crash Win2k, didn''t even faze it. Enough stability for me.

hmm now I''m getting a new error. Upon starting my comp it says that there is a system.ini damaged and that i might need to reinstall windows or the program that uses the ini. I have already reinstalled Me like 3 times and the errors still persist any more suggestions? Im going crazy!

Check if you''re still under warranty?

In any case, call Sony tech support. I doubt this is the kind of problem that can be solved over a message board.

Win2K dos emulation is perfect. I''ve never experienced one problem, and have no trouble loading the oldest of DOS games on my machine.

There''s simply no reason to use 98 anymore, and using WinME is a federal crime, in my book.
