I've been hired to create a 2D engine for my college's Game Design Course. I've decided on using Direct3D as the base for the engine. A lot of the core code is complete. I am using a MVC (Model, View, Controller) framework where Model holds the game data, View renders the Game data and controller handles the input. The main goals are to make it easy to use (Well Documented, Designed) efficient, and portable (Only on Windows Platforms though). A pre-alpha version is working pretty well now, but I wanted to hear any feedback from people that have created something like this before. Are there any good 2D engines using DX 8 that you think would help? Any stumbling blocks you faced? Or anything else you think might be helpful. I also think about 2D engine (when i start write arcanoid game ) in DX8 with T3DTexture and Vertexes. But i had some problems:
1. in 1MB card D3d not initialized, also when i give D3DDEVTYPE_REF flag in Direct3DCreate8().
2. I use effects which used pixels on surface,so with vertexes
its work more slowly than in classic Lock Ulock case.

So i deside not use DX8 in 2D, can you give me some reasons to use DX8-3D model in 2D engine, may be i not attentive and skip some usefull things...
