when i''m starting up my computer (i have windowME) and it says ''starting up your new computer'' then it says ''please type the name of your command intepeter (eg, C:\WINDOWS\COMMMAND.COM)'' what is the right command? my computer is newly formatted.. i think its a problem due to the linux installation i did. hmm, i uninstall linux btw(redhat) each time i reboot, or startup, it ALWAYS prompt to that screen no matter what (I tried restarting in safemode, but I can''t, i tried holding CTRL and choose the WindowME menu and choose normal mode but it still prompt to that screen. Thanks ALOT in advance!

Did you install linux on the same partition as your windows installation? Do you have a boot disk? Can you boot with that disk and type "DIR drive letter of your windows disk:". Are there any files there?

Hmmm... no, the partitation that I split my drive is different from linux.. I created a seperate one for windows.

and yes, I have a boot disk and it would take me to A:\ when I type in C:\ and dir C:\ sometimes it would show me the files or something it says ''not ready to read C:\ abort, retry, abort?'' its like something like that and I forgot.

That is what we call a Bad Thing™. You can try running scandisk by typing in "scandisk /surface" (it will take a while depending on the size and speed of your drive, normally 5min/GB), however this sounds more like a harddrive with terminal damage (something is actually broken/burnt out on it). I would suggest trying to copy anything important off the drive to a safe location. If you have experience in hardware troubleshooting you can check for some common things (swap the IDE cable to ensure the connection is ok, then plug in a different harddrive to ensure the motherboard is ok), otherwise get a shop/repair techie to look at it, you might need to replace it.

no way!

It was working JUST find when I had WindowMe on
Perhaps when I ran FDISK on the drive or something.. or else I have to be stuck will LINUX FOREVER! :o

Anyways, Linux is no problem for me, but I can''t connect o the the internet with linux and i''ll try to seek the manual latter when I get home.. guess thats some bad news which I''m afraid off. Thanks alot, I''ll just keep asking people.

But I don''t think its a burned out hard disk or something, no, thats not it.. I''m sure of it though.

On more question.. how do I check my modem''s name and device driver''s etc ? on anywhere in the computer (not I don''t have windows, but I have linux redhat 6.0)

You may need the command FDisk /MBR .

Windows ME is not smart enough to rewrite the master boot record, and that is currently still pointing towards the Linux install you used to have (which did update the Master Boot Record).

You might need to reinstall windows to fix the problem (after the FDisk). However, if you start up with a boot disk, the hard drive should be accessible without a problem... it''s just not finding the boot block of your windows.

It's only funny 'till someone gets hurt. And then it's just hilarious.Unless it's you.

The reason it sounds like a damaged drive is you said
"sometimes it says ''not ready to read C:\ abort, retry, abort?''"
If it gave you that message all the time it would likely indicate that your drive was formated (or not formated at all) in a way your operating system could not understand. However since you can see the files sometimes (its random whether you see files or a "not ready " message) would show that the harddrive is having intermitant problems in giving the system information. That would point to a hardware problem (linux has nothing to do with that)
