I''m at work now. We use this web-based email system called Kana. My job is to answer incoming emails. Between emails, I post here and on other message boards. Why in hell does MSIE act the way it does? I send an email, and the page begins to refresh. While it''s refreshing, I head over to this window and post. Once the Kana window is done refreshing, it pops back on top. It doesn''t matter what I''m going. I could be reading, typing, clicking on something...MSIE assumes that whatever I''m not looking at has some kind of priority and pops it up to the front, totally interrupting what I''m doing. WTF?!?!? ---signature--- People get ready. I''m ready to play.

Design and code your own browser without this feature

That''s has long been a major gripe of mine. I even get intuerrupted while navigating deep menus. I get interrupted while typing web addresses into the address field. I get interrupted while typing messages. It lowers productivity and I think the whole concept of stealing the input focus is the most stupid concept around.

I had that problem too. Hated it!! I went and downloaded the latest IE hoping that "feature" would be gone, and, miraculously, it was!

The worst is when you''ve got 2 instances of IE, you''re waiting for a big page to load while using the other, you go to hit "Back" and the page your waiting for suddenly pops up and goes back instead. AARRGHRAHGAHRAHAH!!!!!!!!!

Mozilla has the same "feature". I think it''s actually encoded into certain webpages in JavaScript or something.

Oh I truned that off. In Tweak UI there was an option for "Prevent applications from stealing focus" and it actually works perfectly, they don''t pop up on themselves anymore, they just flash a few times in the task bar and then stay blue until I check them out.

I don''t know about you guys, but I tend to personify computers. Every time this happens, I yell at it for being presumptious.

Surely it cannot be the fault of all the programmers in microsoft? And what if it is the java-script thing in the webpage and not Microsoft at all? Will you issue a formal apology?

No, we will yell at Microsoft for allowing us to think that it was them.
