I was thinking about getting the student edition of VS.NET. All fine and good but i''m still happily running Win98. My system is a 933 with 256MB RDRAM. So my question is, is it worth it? I''d probably have to upgrade to 512 RAM, and Rambus aint cheap. Plus XP Pro, and VS.NET itself. Does XP or VS.NET offer any advantages to Win98 and VS 6.0?

A full install of Visual Studio.NET (academic version) is over 2 GB.

It really depends on what your programming needs are.
If you want to get into web applications, then .NET is the better choice.
There are a lot of differences in the two Studios.
.NET doesn''t come with FoxPro, but it does have C#.
I''d say try and find a friend who has .NET and check it out at his/her place and see if it appeals to you.
I was happy with Win98 as well, so I dual-boot with 98 and Win2k so that I can still use either version of Visual Studio.
I guess you could still use both on 2K or XP, I just like 98 so that''s why I kept it

Oh yeah, I''m still stuck with 128 RAM, and it works fine. A little slow on occasion, but not to the point of frustration.
