A while ago I was listening to the radio in my car while driving and it suddenly stopped working. I can change radio stations and the display panel also works correctly, but I don''t get any sound. The tape player won''t play any sound either. My dad checked the fuses and they seemed fine. Is there some other easy checkup that can be done?

First, make sure you don''t have the fader faded to speakers which don''t exist.

It''s not a problem with the controls. When I was listening to the radio, it just suddenly stopped working. No one had touched it.

Replacing it with a new radio will almost certainly get sound to your speakers again.

First of all you should reboot to clear anything funny out of memory.

maybe the cables to the speakers are broken...

Use a voltmeter where the speaker wires connect. If the needle moves around when the radio is on then your radio is putting out a signal but not enough to actually power the speakers. Throw out the radio if turning up the volume and making sure it isn''t muted doesn''t work.

If your radio can scan channels okay (not just go to presets) then it''s picking up stations just fine. If it can''t accuratly scan stations then your radio is FUBAR. Throw it out.

Well, unless you want to open up the stereo and see if any internal fuses have blown. Tearing things apart is always fun.

I know why my speakers don''t put out anything. They''re blown (might be the problem in your case too). Considering I have to take out the rear seat ot replace them I''d rather have a fubar stereo. That''s easy to replace.

Ben
